The West Indies team, which is touring India, will play three ODIs and three T20I matches. The ODI series, which starts on February 6, will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the entire T20 series will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will reach a new milestone in the history of international cricket by playing the first ODI of the series. The Indian team, which has played 999 ODIs so far, will make its 1000th ODI debut against the West Indies. This makes India the first team in the history of world cricket to play 1000 ODIs.
India lost their first ODI against England in Leeds in 1974 by 4 wickets. In the 48 years since then, India have played 999 matches with 518 wins and 431 defeats. 9 matches ended in a tie. The remaining 41 matches were canceled.
India is followed by Australia (958 matches), Pakistan (932 matches) and others. Ajay Wadekar captained India in the first ODI, Kapil Dev in the 100th, Azharuddin in the 200th, Sachin Tendulkar in the 300th, Azharuddin in the 400th.Sourav Ganguly in the 500th match, Virender Sehwag in the 600th match, MS in the 700, 800 and 900 matches. Dhoni also captained the Indian team. Rohit Sharma will lead India in the 1000th match of the series.
India are 5th in the list of highest run scorers in an innings of ODIs. Sehwag's 219 against the West Indies on December 8, 2011 was India's highest score at 418.
India have played 161 matches against Sri Lanka alone against individual teams. It has 93 wins and 56 defeats. India have played 144 matches against Australia, 133 matches against West Indies, 132 matches against Pakistan, 110 matches against New Zealand and 103 matches against England.
